The title of
my book is Divergent. The name of the author who wrote this book is Veronica
Roth. I acquired this book about a month ago but didn’t really get that far on
our free reading classes so I started it this weekend and it only took me two
days to read. The book is 487 pages long and I got to read all of them, I would
rate this book a ten on a one to tenth scale, it is one of the best books I have
ever read.
The
character that changed the most in this story would have to be the main
character Beatrice. In the beginning of the story she is nothing but an average
girl in her faction of abnegation, among the other factions of erudite,amity, condor,
and dauntless, until she takes her aptitude test to determine what faction she
should belong in after the choosing ceremony. Her test results are inconclusive
and she finds out that she is what is called divergent, but she must not tell
anyone, not even her family. During the choosing ceremony she chooses to change
factions and become one of the dauntless initiates. In order to prove herself
as brave, she must attempt dangerous stunts and go through battle training. She
starts to slowly change into a dauntless, she starts getting tattoos and
wearing different clothes, and she also thinks differently than she did before,
she even changes her name to Tris. There are two trainers for the initiates who
teach them how to fight, their names are: Eric and Four, Tris, along with the
others feels scared of Eric and a little intimidated by Four. After Tris and
the other initiates finish their training for fighting, they move on to a test
called simulation; this is where the initiates are put under with an injection
and while under they have to face their worst fears, in order to pass this test
you must conquer or forget about your fears and wake up as soon as possible.
When the initiates get their rankings on their test results, Tris is surprised to
be the first on the list. After this, one of Tris’s enemy’s name Peter tries to
throw her into a river called the chasm which is in the dauntless premises,
accompanying her enemy is one of her good friends Al. Just as they are about to
throw her over, Four comes in and saves Tris, this is when they start to develop
feelings for each other, and soon after this Al wants Tris to forgive him for
what he did but she can’t, so the next day her other friend Christina comes and
tells Tris that Al has committed suicide by jumping into the chasm. The next
stage is for the initiate’s initiation is the fear landscape; this is where
their fears become real. Four feels secure enough to let Tris see his fears and
this is where Tris finds out that his real name is Tobias and the reason that
they call him four is because he only has four fears. When it is time for her
to do the fear landscape she is ready, when the rankings go up to see who is in
the dauntless she is ranked first and her other friends make it to. Something
feels off to Tris though, when she was done her simulation Eric injected her
with some other liquid and e said that everyone else had to get the injection
also and that the injection had transmitters in it. She knew that something was
wrong, and that night she awoke to everyone in a sleepwalk mode; this is what
the injection had done to them, except the divergent; therefore she was immune to
it and so was Four. A woman named Jeanine had placed these simulation programs
in their heads in order to have full control of their bodies so that she could
have soldiers to fight against the abnegations. Tris and Four try to stop her
but she injects four with a simulation that will overcome his divergence and
make him listen to their commands. Tris has to stop this war from expanding to
she sets out to destroy the data that holds the programing along to help her
are her father, brother and Four’s father- Marcus. While on her way to destroy
the data she loses both her parents, but she helps Four overcome the simulation
and they take the data and everyone wakes up. Now Tris, Four, her brother Caleb
and Four’s father are trying to figure out their next move.
